Synopsis

Crossing St. James's After An Evening At The Diogenes, Holmes Is Violently Attacked, But Rescued By A Boy Named Jack, Who Helps Holmes To One Of His Hideaways. Jack Nurses Holmes, Returns Him To 221 When It's Safe To Do So, Then Disappears. When Holmes Has Barely Recovered, Mycroft Shares His Suspicion That Moriarty's Men Have Regrouped Under A New Leader; Investigation On The Continent Supports His Opinion. Then A Break In Routine Comes In The Form Of A Summons From Sir Christopher Summerville. A Maid In The Household Has Been Brutally Strangled In Her Room With No Sign Of A Breakin. Summerville Forcefully Insists That Public Scandal Must Be Avoided. But That's Not The Only Troublesome Note Watson And Holmes Observe At Bitterne. Sir Christopher Is Subject To Rages While His Wife Attempts To Hide Her Bruises. Another Visitor To Bitterne, Lady Beatrice, Proves To Be Nearly As Observant As Holmes.
