Synopsis
The Hubble Space Telescope has been a productive scientific space mission for 20 years, but in 2010 its imaging capabilities will disappear as it ages. Papers from an April 2002 workshop present evidence for the need for future optical-UV space telescope missions, looking at unanswered questions in cosmology, extragalactic astronomy, stellar populations, star and planet formation, and astrophysics. Some specific topics include supermassive black hole research in the post-Hubble era, critical UV spectroscopy and the intergalactic medium, and cool stars. There is no subject index.
