Description:This sixth edition of a comprehensive collection of assessments commonly used in psychology, education, and business continues to provide a solid reference that can be used by professionals to locate both tests and the respective publishers. The first edition was published in 1983 with the fifth edition published in 2003.
Purpose:The purpose is to provide a thorough overview of the thousands of tests and assessments available in the field. Making this reference easy to use was a primary objective of the author, and this edition includes web addresses for quick access to materials. The author has been successful in providing a well researched compendium of commonly used tests and assessments.
Audience:Psychologists, educators, researchers, and human research personnel will be well served by this latest edition. In addition, graduate level students will find this an excellent reference and springboard for thesis and dissertation assessment selection.
Features:The book is organized into three sections of psychology instruments, education instruments, and business instruments. The psychology section includes commonly used scales for ADHD, geropsychology, illness, intelligence, neuropsychology, pain, anxiety, depression, and personality. The education section includes scales used for academic achievement and aptitude, behavior and counseling, development and readiness, fine arts, foreign language, speech pathology, and more. The business section includes such areas as banking, clerical, computer, health services, and sales. All assessments are listed by title, copyright date, primary publisher, authors' names, intended population, purpose, test features, format information, scoring method, and cost and availability. The index is quite helpful as there are three separate ways to find a scale: by test title, by test author, or by test publishers.
Assessment:This is a needed, easy-to-use reference for professionals who work with psychological, educational, or business assessments. I would love to see a yearly book in this format with all of the known tests, similar to a Physician's Desk Reference.
