Synopsis

These Short Stories Reflect The Various Cycles Of Life That Edith Foote Carpenter Experienced During The 50 Years From Shortly After The Conclusion Of World War I Until Well Beyond The End Of World War Ii. During These Times Of Drastic World Changes The Author Explores The Multiple Stages Of Life Encountered In These Insightful Stories. Unfortunately, Because Of A Wide Variety Of Content That Is True To Life, A Few Of These Stories Have Less Than Happy Endings. One Of The Three Christmas Stories Is A Traditional Version Of The Birth Of Jesus, While The Other Two Engender A Variety Of Emotions In Modern Times. The Wide Diversity Among The Stories Included In The Formative Years Section Can Be Explained By The Fact That The Author Had Two Daughters When She Was In Her Twenties And Another Girl Ten Years Later. Because Of Differences In World Events, The Two Older Children Practically Comprised A Separate Generation, And They Functioned In A Far Different World From That Of Their Little Sister. The World War Ii Years, During Which The Older Girls Were In High School And College And The Youngest Was In Elementary School, Provided Inspiration For Totally Different Stories, As Dissimilar As Their Individual Experiences. However, As Life Goes Steadily Forward, Hopes And Aspirations Become More Narrow As The Differences Between Priorities And Opportunities Diminish. The Last Section Addresses Various Ways Of Coping With The Later Years.
